My Immigration Protest

“In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man’s becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile…We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language…and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”  — Theodore Roosevelt, from a letter to the President of the American Defense Society, January 3, 1919.

Damned right.

“The Fog”

I just watched the unrated DVD of “The Fog”. On the back of the box, it says “Copy Protected”. I wondered just how they managed to copy protect the content. Now that I’ve seen the movie, I realized the content WAS the copy protection - nobody is going to copy this crap. Just how bad? Read on for more.. (Spoiler alert - not that it matters a damn bit)

Vindication!!

It finally happened. Someone I know finally got sick from EGGS. Ever since I moved to the United States, both friends and family have teased me and mocked me for not wanting to have anything to do with raw eggs. I don’t want any salmonella. No sir.

Poor Buddy had some egg nog containing some raw, unpasteurized eggs. Buddy is now sicker than that donkey show you hear about in Tijuana. I’m sorry someone I know is sick, but at the same time… I am getting sheer evil delight.

I TOLD YOU SO!!!

Death of the Job Interview

Is the traditional job interview truly dead and buried? I applied for a job at a local company, and got an interview. Or, what I *thought* was an interview. I showed up, all set to go, enthused and everything.

They stuffed me in a tiny cubicle to watch a video and fill out paperwork. When I say tiny, I mean TINY. Veal gets more living space. I filled out the paperwork the best I can, and wait.. And wait. The guy has forgotten about me. I dial his extension, leave a message. Nothing. He finally comes back, opens the door and looks surprised to see me here. Yep, he’s bringing in someone else to do paperwork and had forgotten I’m there.

Got Skype?

I’m trying to get my family and friends to buy headsets and download a program called Skype. It lets you make voice calls over the internet. Skype to Skype calls (computer to computer) are free, so it’d let my family in Canada talk to me without spending a fortune on long distance every time.

I told them about it months ago. Not a single one of them has downloaded it. Nobody bought a headset. Nobody has shown more than cursory interest whenever I mention it. Yet, these are the same people who tell me they never hear from me enough, and wish we could talk more often.

*sigh*
